Local winemakers gather to present their wines in a celebration recognised as a Festival of Tourist Interest in Galicia since 2000.<\/p>\n

The event attracts thousands of visitors, highlighting the significance, dynamism and growing reputation of local viticulture. The prestige of Amandi wine is rooted in both tradition and legend; it is said that vines have been cultivated here since monastic orders first settled in the Ribeira Sacra, and that the wine was even exported to the Rome of the Caesars. These vines grow on the characteristic steep terraces of the Sil Canyon, a demanding terrain that makes every task in the vineyard so challenging that the area has earned the world-renowned title of \u201cheroic viticulture\u201d.<\/p>\n

In 1980, a group of Sober residents took the initiative to revitalise the livestock fair by holding it on Palm Sunday. To make it more appealing, they invited several winemakers from the Amandi area to present their wines. The wine proved such a resounding success at that first fair that it became the main attraction both that year and on the following Palm Sunday. This success laid the foundation for this annual event and celebration that convinced even the most sceptical winemakers to believe in a project that has since become a key driver of the local economy.<\/p>\n

The fair venue, set in Sober\u2019s Town Hall Square, comes to life with the music of the Sober Band, one of the oldest in Galicia and a symbol of the municipality. The event also provides the perfect opportunity to showcase the surrounding landscape and the local way of life, where viticulture and the pottery tradition of Gundiv\u00f3s coexist in harmony. At the craft stalls, visitors can appreciate the historical significance of this pottery and its pieces, many of which were traditionally used in winemaking tasks.<\/p>\n

During the fair, winemakers offer their Menc\u00eda, considered the flagship of Galician red wines. Visitors have the opportunity to taste it and purchase it alongside other exceptional local products, such as cheeses, artisan bread, honey from the Ribeira Sacra, and the famous roscas<\/em> of Sober.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner]
