- SOBER’S ROSCA FAIR & AMANDI WINE TASTING TUNNEL -

Every year on the 12th of August, coinciding with the monthly local fair, this now well-established event celebrates one of Sober’s most iconic products: the Rosca de Sober. Whether served as an appetiser or dessert, (traditionally paired with cheese) enjoyed at lunchtime or simply as a sweet treat for children, Sober’s roscas are welcome on every occasion.

The deep-rooted tradition of this ring-shaped sweet bread has stood the test of time and neither changes in eating habits nor the introduction of modern foods have managed to displace it. Such is its importance, that the rosca has had its own dedicated fair since 1996. During the festivities, visitors can enjoy free servings of rosca paired with regional cheese and purchase their own from various artisan stalls.

The rosca de Sober is rarely found in shops, but it is typically served in local restaurants and private homes during celebrations, as rosqueiros (rosca bakers) bake it mainly on pre-order basis. These artisans also bake roscas for fairs and romerías, where selling this delicacy is part of a long-standing tradition. Each rosca is entirely handmade and the secret to its success lies in the use of top-quality ingredients: flour, eggs, saffron, sugar, yeast, water and salt.

The fair also hosts a dedicated area for local beekeepers, who produce an artisanal honey renowned for its exceptional properties and flavour.

Since 2017, the Rosca Fair has continued to evolve by hosting the Amandi Wine Tasting Tunnel. This event has become an excellent opportunity to taste and promote the wines of our specific sub-zone, serving as the perfect follow-up to the main Amandi Wine Fair held earlier in the year.
