- ROMERIA OF CADEIRAS -

In the parish of Pinol, about half a kilometre from the Church of San Vicente, stands the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Cadeiras, set within an exceptional natural landscape bordering the Sil Canyon. Its construction began in the 18th century, though the initial project remains unfinished. This single-nave building is notable for its granite stone and finely carved ashlar. However, it is best known as a pilgrimage site due to the miracles traditionally attributed to the Virgin.

According to a medieval legend, the image of the Virgin miraculously appeared in a cleft between the rocks, very close to where it stands today. Initially, a small chapel was raised on the spot and rebuilt several times before the present sanctuary was established. Historically, this site has welcomed pilgrims and visitors attending romerias and religious festivities.

There is literature dedicated to this Sanctuary, covering its architecture, evolution as well as accounts of the miracles attributed to the Virgen.

Since the 19th century, this site has hosted a well-known romeria every 7th, 8th and 9th of September. The highlights of these days of devotion are the religious services, the traditional procession and the communal country picnics.
