NURSERY SCHOOL

Sober Nursery School traces its roots to 26 April 2005, with the inauguration of the Childcare Support Centre (Punto de Atención a la Infancia P.A.I.). Located in a section of the Virxe do Carme primary school building, the centre opened its doors with an initial enrolment of seven children.

During the P.A.I. first months, the teaching staff comprised one teacher and one assistant, with a second teacher joining the team in August.

The facilities covered over 200 m² and include three classrooms, a sleeping area, dining room, kitchen, reception area, office and bathrooms. The outdoor space features a garden with trees, a playground, and a small vegetable patch, which the centre’s users help to maintain.

Originally, thanks to an agreement signed between the Galician Ministry for Family Affairs and the Local Council, the centre was open from 7:45 am to 8:00 pm, as children over the age of three could be admitted for after-school care. The centre has the capacity to accommodate infants from three months to three years old, as well as children aged three to six for after-school sessions.

Residents of the Sober municipality can enrol in this service free of charge. Since its opening, the P.A.I. maintained 100% occupancy for its 20 available places, typically operating with a waiting list.

During the 2023/2024 school year, the P.A.I. underwent a transformation to become the Nursery School. This involved an extension of the building to include two additional classrooms, sleeping areas and bathrooms, doubling its capacity from twenty to forty places.

Currently, opening hours are from 7:45 am to 3:55 pm. The service remains free of charge, as it is covered by the Xunta de Galicia’s Nursery School Free Tuition Plan.
